When it is your turn to lead the group meeting. Begin on time even if everyone has not yet arrived. Give a copy of this outline to all visitors so they can know what is going on and cooperate with it. Open with a Prayer: First a moment of silence to gather our thoughts to our common purpose, which is to come to know ourselves and our relationship to God and to align our wills with His. All say the Lord's Prayer sincerely. Business: Reports from Virginia Beach and the local ARE Council; Minutes; reports on lectures, meetings, and special projects. Additions and / or changes on the group's Prayer List. Collection: Take up contributions. Pass a bag or bowl. Giving, whatever can be spared, is a way of learning to love. "Loving is giving". Discipline: Each member try to tell briefly the results of his daily efforts to apply last week's assignment, i.e. new insights, what helped, what hindered, principles, instead of details of what happened. Bible: Reading and/or correlated quotations from the Edgar Cayce readings. Remember, the Edgar Cayce readings and Study Group should supplement our active religious-church life, making it more effective and meaningful, not replacing it. A Search for God:1. Prepare in advance by reading the portion you expect to cover in one hour. Put a question mark in the margin where the meaning is not clear and underline or highlight important and basic points for discussion of what they mean and how we can apply them. Do include the obvious and familiar truths we think we know well. 2. Remember: Being a leader does not mean knowing and/or giving all the answers. Leaders should ASK questions and encourage each member to participate actively. (Vague "Any comments or questions?" seldom bring forth a response. Specific questions such as "How can we know when a decision is in accordance with God's will?"usually stimulate discussion.) 3. Members should be brief so everyone gets a turn. Each one should contribute that which he has applied and found helpful, instead of just what he has read, heard or thought. Listen carefully to what is both said and meant. Look for points of agreement and the basic thread of truth. When you do not agree, remember each person is entitled to their own point of view. Never argue. Remember, too, this is not designed to be group therapy or sensitivity training. "Mind is the builder"; so"Magnify virtues and minimise faults." 4. Keep on the subject to get the most out of the time and material. Personal interest in other subjects and/or other sources, no matter how worthwhile, should be explored at other times. Keep these two hours for the principles and laws presented in the Search for God book and correlated material from the Edgar Cayce readings. 5. In assigning next week's discipline, make it specific, concrete and bite-size. Preferably something to do about what you have just been reading and discussing in the Search for God book, rather than something to just think about or read. Meditation and Prayer for Healing: The last 20 or 30 minutes of each meeting. See the Meditation outline for the procedure details.
